The “Get the eye-dea!” workshops have been a big hit in the schools, with the children enjoying the fun activities designed to raise awareness of visual impairment.
Foresight educators have visited the Year 5 classes of Jumeirah English Speaking School, Horizon School (both campuses), and Jumeirah College, and more schools have requested workshops for the summer term.
As a follow-up activity to the workshops, the children are encouraged to enter a competition and Foresight judges find it very hard to choose winners from the many ingenious entries that are submitted.
Presentations are also being made to school assemblies, with special guest Katy Newitt talking about Foresight and what she is hoping to accomplish by running the London Marathon.
In addition to bake sales and orange ribbon drives, fund–raising events in the schools have included individual initiatives such as sponsored silences and more general activities such as orange mufti (or “civvies”) days. Many thanks to all those who have taken part in these events.
Foresight has been welcomed by a number of schools and colleges in Dubai to run workshops (this can form part of P.S.E. for the British National Curriculum). These photos give an idea of some of the activities. If you would like to volunteer to become part of our Education programme please contact education@foresightrp.com.
