The key to the successful use of pharmaceuticals in many hereditary retinal disorders lies in greater understanding of the genes which lie behind the disease and what they do. No drug can restore sight; however there may be some treatments which can address some of the issues arising from various disorders. It is difficult to present an overview of progress in this field as pharmaceutical companies are usually reluctant to share their findings.
