Research | Foresight Funded Research | Introduction
Foresight Research Objectives
Foresight aims to improve understanding of the causes of RP and related hereditary disorders of the retina and to identify ways of preventing loss of vision or restoring visual function through funding of high quality research. Through research we aim to encourage and accelerate treatments that halt or remedy loss of vision caused by these diseases and where possible use the unique resources of the United Arab Emirates to make an impact on furthering world progress towards a cure.
Research Priorities
Research priorities will be debated by the Scientific and Medical Advisory Board and recommendations made to Foresight, taking account of the latest developments in RP research worldwide. A broad "landscape of interest" will be mapped out.
The Members of the Scientific Medical Advisory Board (SMAB) advising Foresight are:
Dr Manal Al Taryam, President, Emirates Medical Association Institute of Ophthalmology
Dr Chris Canning, CEO and Medical Director of Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai
Dr Suraiwan Wentzel, BSc DVM, Researcher, Dubiotech
Professor Najib Al Khaja, Director, Cardiology and Cardio thoracic Surgery Centre, Dubai Hospital, DOHMS & Secretary General of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences
Future Research Projects
The Foresight Scientific and Medical Advisory Board is currently evaluating the next project to fund. There is encouraging evidence that we may be able to conduct a study in the near future that uses local resources and has an impact on the world-wide progress towards a cure for a form of hereditary eye disease.
