Macular Degeneration
Eye Conditions & Care | Eye Conditions | Macular Degeneration
Macular Degeneration is a group of diseases characterised by the gradual breakdown of the macula (the central portion of the retina at the back of the eye). This is responsible for central detailed vision essential for reading, driving and recognising faces. Macular Degeneration is one of the most common causes of low vision in the elderly population. It can, however, affect younger people in the form of Stargardt's, Best's Disease, or Inverse RP.
