Independent Living Skills
Independent Living Skills are the skills needed to perform everyday tasks. We assist people to learn a variety of these skills to help them become more independent. The sessions are run in an informal and fun way and to date have covered:
- How to put on make-up
- Guided shopping
Please contact Foresight if you would like to join the next session.
Support and Information
We provide information about different eye diseases and how to cope with vision loss, in English and Arabic. Our leaflets are available through Ophthalmologists and hospitals as well as directly from Foresight. We also have available by download, Outlook, our audio newsletter specially designed for the visually impaired and blind.
Foresight remains in contact with Ophthalmologists, eye doctors and hospitals within the U.A.E. to ensure the latest information about degenerative eye diseases and their potential cures is available.
We encourage people affected by sight loss to ensure they are correctly diagnosed and we have medical partners who will help us with this. We also recommend that people with hereditary eye disease visit a geneticist and if possible, a genetic counsellor to help sufferers of the risk of passing the condition to their children and to enable them to make certain informed decisions as to their family life.
In 2007 we brought Mary Lavelle, counselling psychologist from Fighting Blindness Ireland, to run some peer mentoring sessions. This offered emotional support from someone who has experienced vision loss or worked with people in this field.
