About Foresight | Katy Our Inspiration | Dubai Marathon 2009
I’m Katy Newitt. In September 2004 I discovered there was, for the first time, hope that a cure might be found for the hereditary disease that was causing me to lose my sight. For the first time in my life I believed that future generations would not have to suffer the devastating effects of sight loss. I ran the London Marathon in 2005 to raise funds to help research and this led to the creation of a non-profit organisation called Foresight in Dubai.
Training for and running the marathon was one of the most challenging things I ever did. I was so proud of my achievement – but one marathon was enough.
However in 2008, some amazing breakthroughs in medical research have given me reason to believe a cure may be found within my lifetime. This incredible news has spurred me on to train for the Dubai Marathon and raise as much money as possible to help these amazing scientists.

If you are planning on running, you may be feeling anxious, nervous and daunted at this stage. I know that I’m a few years older and my sight has deteriorated since 2005, so I’m taking my preparation a day at a time. Running for a really worthwhile cause can give you the extra motivation you need when things get tough.
Thank you for your support to help fight blindness.
